Brown’s Risk Management provides practical CDM advice and Principal Designer support to developers, housebuilders, contractors and project teams across the North West and throughout the UK.
We help clients establish effective arrangements under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, coordinate health and safety during the design process and maintain a clear flow of information between clients, designers and contractors.
Clients have a significant influence over how construction projects are procured, designed and managed. Clear appointments, adequate resources and the timely provision of information establish the foundations for safer and more efficient delivery.
We can help clients with:
Support can be provided for individual projects or across a wider development programme.
Brown’s Risk Management can work alongside the appointed CDM Principal Designer and design team, supporting design risk coordination, reviews of designers’ information, action tracking, communication with the Principal Contractor and preparation of the health and safety file.
We help establish the project’s CDM strategy, identify the relevant dutyholders and clarify what information, appointments and management arrangements will be required.
Support can include pre-construction information, design risk coordination, competence reviews, project meetings and ensuring significant risks are communicated to those who need to manage them.
Where design work continues, we support communication between the design and construction teams, review design changes and help ensure emerging risks are considered before work proceeds.
Independent site inspections can also provide clients with assurance that agreed arrangements are being implemented in practice.
We assist with the collection, review and organisation of relevant health and safety file information, helping ensure the completed file is proportionate, usable and suitable for future maintenance, alteration and demolition work.
The CDM Principal Designer and the Principal Designer appointed under the Building Safety Act perform different statutory functions and are subject to different competence requirements.
The same organisation may undertake both roles where it has the necessary competence and is appointed accordingly, but the appointments and scope should be clearly confirmed. Our CDM support relates to managing health and safety risk under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
Brown’s Risk Management is led by Adam Brown CMIOSH, MIIRSM, an OSHCR-registered consultant with extensive site-based and senior health and safety leadership experience within major UK construction and housebuilding organisations.
This experience supports an approach that considers regulatory duties alongside buildability, construction sequencing, contractor interfaces and the practical realities of delivering work on site.
Whether you are planning a new development, reviewing an existing project or need additional support for your appointed Principal Designer, Brown’s Risk Management can provide proportionate advice tailored to your requirements.
